2 be still (opposed to both speech and motion) Job 31:34; = perish Jeremiah 8:14; Jeremiah 48:2; Psalm 31:18 (לשׁאול ׳ד); with לְ be silent to i.e. be resigned to Psalm 37:7; Psalm 62:6, followed by לְמוֺ עֲצָתִי Job 29:21 ("" לִי שָֽׁמְעוּ); be still, motionless, stand still Joshua 10:12,13 (of sun "" עמד); 1 Samuel 14:9 (men); Jeremiah 47:6 (of sword "" הֵרָֽגְעִי); so also of bowels, as seat of mental excitement Job 30:27; Lamentations 2:18 אַלתִּֿדֹּם בַּתעֵֿינֵךְ, i.e. cease not to weep ("" הוֺרִידִי כַנַּחַל דִּמְעָה).

II. [דָּמַם] verb wail (?; compare Assyrian damâmu, groan, wail, lament, Dl^{Baer's Ezech xi; pr 64}) — only

Qal Imperative דֹּ֫מּוּ ישְׁבֵי אִי Isaiah 23:2 wail, ye coast dwellers (compare Dl^l.c.), "" הֵילִילוּ Isaiah 23:1, & הֵילִילוּ ישְׁבֵי אִי Isaiah 23:6; most, however, assign this to I.דמם q. v. (3).
